Because it is better...

"Losing our illusions is painful because illusions are the stuff we live by. The Spirit of God is the great unmasker of illusions, the great destroyer of icons and idols. God's love for us is so great that He does not permit us to harbor false images, no matter how attached we are to them. God strips those falsehoods from us no matter how naked it may make us, because it is better to live naked in truth than closed in fantasy."

- Brennan Manning, The Relentless Tenderness of Jesus

History and Herstory

Earlier this year, it became really clear to me that I needed to organize my ministry work in a way that would help others to join me in creating real and lasting change. In doing so, I not only solved my problem but also created a solution for you and other marketplace leaders.

Some people have said Soul to Soul is like a Facebook for Christians and others have said it’s a great way to spread the word about upcoming Christian events. For me personally, it's also… Continue

Chaplains at work?

A number of Madison area companies are working with a local chaplaincy service. I decided to provide this as an employee benefit about 15 months ago. It has been one of the best decisions I've made. Our chaplain was mentioned in an article in the Wall Street Journal yesterday. You can read more about it here and if you have questions about how this works, just let me know.…

Who is at the center of your story?

I spent the day in Sheboygan celebrating the high school graduation of 3 miracle boys. Since junior high school, I have been friends with their mom. When they were born, they were small enough to hold in the palm of a man's hand. Today, we celebrated their graduation from high school. Two of the three were valedictorians of their class of nearly 800 kids. Since I spent 6 hours of my day driving, I missed "church" in the traditional sense but listened tonight to Tim Mackey's talk from…

Your Marvelous Things

A morning prayer request for each of us!

"Dear Lord, grant me the grace of wonder. Surprise me, amaze me, awe me in every crevice of Your universe. Delight me to see how Your Christ plays in ten thousand places, lovely in limbs, and lovely in eyes not His, to the Father through the features of men's faces. Each day enrapture me with Your marvelous things without number. I do not ask to see the reason for it all; I ask only to share the wonder of it all." - Rabbi… Continue

She has 10,000 Eyes

I received a most unusual package in the mail last Friday - 10 caterpillars arrived safe and sound from Insect Lore in California.

I love things that fly – mostly birds but I enjoy butterflies too. I think it’s because they are less focused and more playful. They appear to flit and float instead of soar and dive. Birds work. Butterflies play.

Right now, the…

Soul Music

I just started taking a guitar class at the UW. My class meets once a week for 90 minutes. I've taken private guitar lessons twice before. Both times my business life became all consuming before I had a chance to get into any kind of groove. The last time I took lessons in 08, Brian, my punk rock electric guitar playing teacher played "Hey there Delilah" for me sometimes and I would cry real tears. I enjoyed listening more than playing then but I've since decided that it's my turn to…
