For most of the last two years, I've enjoyed contemporary worship music on Sunday mornings. Even before that, I went to a less traditional evangelical church for nearly two decades so it had been years so I had been to a traditional service. But then I moved to my new home and started going to Christ Presbyterian Church. We went to the contemporary service the first few weeks at 11 and sang praise songs and loved it but then I had a Sunday by myself and went to the traditional service at 9. I was in awe of what I heard. It brought worship to a whole new level. They have an amazing choir and an equally spirit-filled organist (45 years at the pedals and keys) plus a pipe organ that I can only describe as out of this world. Next Sunday, if you decided to visit, you would hear Toccato (from Italian toccare, "to touch". "It is a virtuoso piece that features fast-moving, lightly fingered or otherwise virtuosic passage, sometimes with fugue-like interludes", according to the program. We will hear Prelude in Fugue in F, thought to be written after 1714. We'll also hear other master works for the organ including: A hymn prelude on All Hail the Power of Jesus' Name, a Bach Chorale Prelude, Abide, O Dearest Jesus; and the praise-full treatment of the hymn tune Tallis' Canon. If you are looking for a real treat on Sunday morning for worship - something beyond the ordinary - and a great talk as well with people are really welcoming, put Christ Presbyterian Church on your calendar next week or any Sunday. Parking is free and the price of admission is right too - also free but you'll leave filled with the spirit of almighty God. Guaranteed or your money back. :)
